Friends, Romans, Countrymen...
STAND HO!
I've got a blog now, where I'll be posting my thoughts on anything from Philosophy, to Politics, to Science, to Religion, to Music and anything else my overly-adventurous mind might stumble upon.
I like to think of this experiment as an exercise in "Mental Liberation." And you, the reader, can think of this as a sounding board--- feel free to respond, to ARGUE, if you must. It is your duty, after all.
=========================================================================
Now, this blog is like baby now. Freshly delivered, still smoldering and covered in various bodily fluids...
And it's totally naked. Like a Nudist.
These guys and 'gals fascinate me with the whole no clothes thing. If you think of the implications, it's really deep: People wear clothes to hide things. "We (the Nudists) have nothing to hide!" It's really beautiful and just... awesome. If I had a better physique, I might seriously try it, some day.
BUT--- There is nothing Natural about it.
I've meditated on this for a while, and I've reached a conclusion: Nudism is a slap in the face to Mother Nature and Father Darwin.
It goes like this: clothes are an adaptation. Way back in the day, some people realized that by dawning the organs of their slain prey, they attain much higher levels of warmth and comfort. Human hair just doesn't match up to carcasses in that respect. So, we need less built-in warmth because we wear clothes, so we lose most of the hair over time.
See where this is going? Even though (I'll argue this, though I can't precisely back it up) people beat Natural Selection once populations stabilized in the 1500's, there's no sound biological reason to NOT where clothes. They provide warmth and keep us clean.
I'd wager that if some calamity drastically reduced human populations and the separated the remainder, an isolated Nudist population might someday "Revolve" increased body hair, assuming they live in mild climates. I doubt they'd get much if they lived in, say, the tropics.
Granted, I'm no scientist, but it seems to me that the "naturally nudist" argument falls flat.
We wear and switch clothes the same way a hermit crab changes shells from to time. It suits our needs. We as the dominant species of the planet can think beyond basic instinct and realized anything that can't is ours for the taking if we so desire. If it furthers our will to survive and straighten us by protection or any means then we will exploit it. Its kind of a symbiotic relationship. Only thing is its one sided with us and the creature we take advantage of will in my most cases not live to see it. I recall in religion class they taught us god made animals for our own amusement. While I find that a load of horseshit I think it just comes down to who the bigger predator is. Namely us.
ReplyDeleteI personally hate the slaughter of animals for clothing. Especially for stupid fashion reasons but in terms of survival you do what you must.
Being nude is just illogical outside private matters. Your exposing yourself to harm from both physical objects and harsh climates.
Tsugumi Ohba once said "There are no Nudists in cold places," and that's exactly true. You'll find most Nudist camps on beaches!
ReplyDeleteI'm arguing here from a biological perspective. Socially, however, which is what Nudism really is, a Social Protest movement, it makes perfect sense.
The notion of throwing away everything that makes us hide from everyone, and judge everyone is just so beautiful and profound. In that regard, it's a glorious Idea, but not very practical or pragmatic.
Quite true most nudist are on beach camps! Mainly for the fact of a warmer climate. I'm sure you knew that though.
ReplyDeleteRegardless I am aware of your biological argument but I think its obvious with our superior minds we have found ways to survive by not having our skin exposed through the use of clothing. That is what keeps us from needing to evolve further.
On social perspective I know exactly what you mean. Being Nude would mean the world would only see you for you and any brands or trademarks you may sport in your clothing would not be accounted for. Furthermore adds to the idea of freedom. This is why I hate the idea of fashion in the first place. Its just another way to judge each other. However I have to admit though that the nudist idea is wonderful I like the idea of clothing more. Wearing clothes also allows one freedom of expression. I've met friends just by noticing the design on their shirt. I automatically knew I had something in common with one friend I met in college because he was wearing an anime tshirt(the amusing thing was it was a girl's shirt though lol). Still my point stands. So maybe its because I think more creatively than logically sometimes but I look at clothing as more of a way into someone's mind and an art. I just don't like the idea of trends. Anyone should be allowed to wear whatever they want. To add to this I am highly against uniforms. I hate them as they show no expression and makes everyone seem bland and uninteresting. However nudism at the right time and setting could prove to be quite invigorating.
